Damage & Destruction VFXs


Stellar Sovereigns' space combat is getting a much needed VFX update in the form of a damage decal system and a new destruction sequence.

Lately i have been working on a procedural cinematic camera mode inspired by Star Wars Empire at War's cinematic mode, where when activated the battle is portrayed through various cinematic camera sequences.  As i was watching battles unfold through this new mode it became difficult to  gage how any of the ships were doing in the absence of the ui.

To rectify the situation i begun working on a damage VFXs system that spawns decals across damaged sections of the ships giving visual feedback to how damaged a  ship is. The system is fairly flexible which allowed me to add different effects to different factions, for example the sectoids.

Right now i am working on an extra piece of automation that will allow the player to specify what kind of weapons the weapon automation option is allowed to use. It is a collective setting for selected ships and, it uses the same kind of behavior the automation options ui has allowing the player to quickly switch weapons on the fly for more then just one vessel. Giving the final piece of control for the player to easley enact their strategy.
